Should your VP of Sales be on LinkedIn?
Your sales team might be trying to get meetings with people your VP of Sales already knows.
You’ve got SDRs sending hundreds of messages a week, trying to reach decision-makers and get a foot in the door.
Meanwhile, your VP of Sales has spent 15 years in the industry. They know the market, they know the players, and they’ve built up a pretty decent network along the way.
That’s a lot of knowledge and a lot of relationships sitting quietly in one person’s contacts list.
The problem isn’t reach. It’s who’s doing the reaching.
A cold message from an SDR is easy to ignore. A post from someone senior, who’s been in the industry for years and clearly knows what they’re talking about, isn’t.
When your VP of Sales is visible on LinkedIn, a few things start to happen:
People they already know remember them. Old colleagues, past clients and contacts who’ve moved into bigger roles start seeing them again.
New people see someone worth listening to. Opinions, experience and stories from the field build trust in a way company posts rarely do.
Your sales team gets warmer conversations. “I’ve seen your VP’s posts” is a very different starting point from a cold opener.
None of that replaces your sales team. It gives them a head start.
“They don’t have time to post”
They don’t. Most VPs are running a team, hitting targets and on calls all day. That’s exactly why LinkedIn ends up at the bottom of the list.
But it doesn’t need to take much of their time. The knowledge is already there. It just needs getting out of their head and onto LinkedIn, in their voice: what they’re seeing in the market, the mistakes they see buyers make, the deals that taught them something.
That’s the part I do. A monthly conversation, content written in their voice, and a network built around the people your business actually wants to reach.
Before you ask your sales team to send more messages
It’s worth asking a different question: who in your business already has the relationships?
Often it’s not a new tool or a bigger outreach list you need. It’s getting your most experienced people visible to the network they’ve spent years building.
